^{A gruff attempt to lift Jonathan’s mood ( as well as a temporary DEFLECTION ), accompanied by a slanting grin before his gaze turns back to the windshield. He figured it went without saying that he’d pick up any slack that came his way from the Byers’ family; after all, he’d damned near landed himself a spot on top of the U.S. Government’s shit-list ( if he’s not in fact currently listed ) trying to help bring Will home. Almost threw himself right back down to the bottom of that hole he’s been clawing his way out of ever since—  anyway. He guesses life’s too short for things to go without saying.}

^{Jonathan can’t help that his lips curve up at the corners. Hopper does have charisma, he always did.
his playful humor is something Jonathan needs right now. it’s already lifting his spirits and he’d only
said one thing, so he was more than okay with the possibility of having Hopper around the house
more. they could all use someone like Hopper. Jonathan knows his mom likes Hop, so it’s not like it’d
be a problem. Maybe it’d turn out to be a better thing than any of them expected, maybe Hop would
come and simply stop going away. Jonathan sure liked him enough to be okay with that.}

^{he keeps his eyes on the road ahead, that hard hold he’d had on the steering wheel before relaxing once
more. it should probably come as some shock how easy Hop can calm him down, but it doesn’t.}
